Chewy Brownies from Scratch

Ingredients

  • 1½ cups (180 g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (88.5 g) good quality dark chocolate cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon (6 g) salt
  • 1 cup (226 g) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup (180 g) bittersweet chocolate chips
  • 2 cups (440 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons (8.4 g) vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (180 g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spray a 9” x 13” baking dish with nonstick spray and set aside.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and bittersweet chocolate chips over medium heat until smooth. Remove from heat and allow to cool for about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the brown sugar to the butter mixture and stir until smooth.
  5. Add the eggs, one at a time, stirring well between each addition.
  6. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  7. Add the flour mixture and stir until no streaks of flour remain.
  8. Fold in ¾ cup of the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and sprinkle the remaining semi-sweet chocolate chips on top.
  10. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.
  11. Remove the pan from the oven and allow the brownies to cool for about 15 to 20 minutes before serving.
