Chocolate Buttercream Frosting

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • β…” cup cocoa powder, sifted
  • 1 Β½ teaspoons vanilla extract
  • β…› teaspoon kosher salt
  • ΒΌ cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Combine softened butter with 1 cup powdered sugar in a large bowl or stand mixer using whisk attachment. Mix until combined, scrape bowl, then repeat with remaining sugar (1 cup at a time). Once all sugar is incorporated, increase speed to medium-high and whip approximately 5 minutes until pale and fluffy, scraping as needed.
  2. Add cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt. Blend on low for 1 minute. Slowly drizzle in heavy cream while mixing.
  3. Once mostly combined, stop mixer and scrape down all sides and bottom of bowl thoroughly.
  4. Resume mixing at medium-high speed for 4-5 minutes until the frosting reaches a silky, light, and fluffy consistency.
