Deconstructed Cabbage Rolls

Ingredients

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 cup cooked rice (white or brown)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Blanch chopped cabbage in boiling water for 3-4 minutes until tender; drain and set aside.
  2. Brown ground beef in large skillet over medium heat; drain excess fat.
  3. Add diced onion and minced garlic, cooking until onion becomes translucent.
  4. Stir in cooked rice, canned tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, paprika, oregano, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes; simmer 5 minutes.
  5. Layer half the cabbage in baking dish, then half the meat mixture; repeat with remaining cabbage and meat.
  6. Sprinkle cheese on top if desired.
  7. Bake covered with foil at 350°F for 20 minutes; remove foil and bake 10 additional minutes.
  8. Cool slightly before serving.
