Plum Pudding

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 Cups Suet chopped fine
  • 1 Cup Flour
  • 1 Cup Sour Milk
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • dash of cloves
  • 2 Cups Raisins
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp Soda sifted in flour
  • 1 Cup dried bread crumbs

Sauce:

  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 2 TBLS Cornstarch
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 Cups boiling water
  • 1/2 stick oleo or 1/4 Cup butter
  • 1 tsp Vanilla

Instructions

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.
  2. Steam pudding in pan for 3-4 hours
  3. Serve hot with sauce.
  4. Sauce: Sift Sugar, Cornstarch, and salt together and gradually add water.
  5. Bring to a boil.
  6. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. Remove from heat and add vanilla and butter.

This recipe was used by Mrs. John H Jones (Maggie Williams) as a young bride. They were married December 20, 1888. It remains the traditional holiday dessert in the homes of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
