Plum Pudding
Ingredients
- 2 1/2 Cups Suet chopped fine
- 1 Cup Flour
- 1 Cup Sour Milk
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 1/2 tsp salt
- dash of cloves
- 2 Cups Raisins
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1 tsp Soda sifted in flour
- 1 Cup dried bread crumbs
Sauce:
- 1 Cup Sugar
- 2 TBLS Cornstarch
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 Cups boiling water
- 1/2 stick oleo or 1/4 Cup butter
- 1 tsp Vanilla
Instructions
- Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.
- Steam pudding in pan for 3-4 hours
- Serve hot with sauce.
- Sauce: Sift Sugar, Cornstarch, and salt together and gradually add water.
- Bring to a boil.
- Simmer for 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat and add vanilla and butter.
This recipe was used by Mrs. John H Jones (Maggie Williams) as a young bride. They were married December 20, 1888. It remains the traditional holiday dessert in the homes of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
