Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

Ingredients

Steak Patties:

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ cup dry breadcrumbs
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Kosher salt (to taste)

Onion Gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2-3 tablespoons flour
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1½ cups beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 6 oz mushrooms (optional), sliced
  • 3 tablespoons fresh parsley (optional), chopped

Instructions

  1. Combine ground beef, egg, tomato paste, mustard, Worcestershire Sauce, garlic powder, breadcrumbs, pepper, and salt in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly and shape into four oval patties.
  2. Heat skillet over medium heat, add butter, then cook patties approximately 4 minutes per side until well-browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Add diced onions to skillet on medium-low heat, cooking until translucent and caramelized (about 15 minutes). Sprinkle flour over onions, stir, and cook 1 minute. Add thyme and cook 30 seconds until fragrant. Gradually stir in beef broth and soy sauce, raising heat to medium.
  4. Return patties to skillet, bring to gentle simmer, cover, and cook 10 minutes until cooked through. Taste gravy for seasoning and serve warm.
