Salted Caramel Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/4 Cup Water
  • 1 Cup Sugar
  • 2/3 Cup heavy cream
  • 3 TBSP unsalted butter cut into pieces
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a heavy bottomed saucepan, heat the water and sugar over medium heat.
  2. Make sure to use a saucepan that’s a little bigger than what you think you will need.
  3. Stir constantly until the sugar has dissolved.
  4. Increase the heat to high and bring to a boil, stop stirring completely.
  5. Let the mixture continue boiling until it turns an amber color, this could take anywhere from 4-12 minutes.
  6. Remove from the heat and slowly whisk in the heavy cream. The mixture will bubble up a lot, so make sure to do this very carefully.
  7. Mix until everything is well combined.
  8. Add the butter and stir well until the butter has melted completely.
  9. Add in the vanilla and salt, and stir until fully combined.
  10. Pour the caramel sauce into a dish and allow to cool completely, then cover tightly and store in the refrigerator.
