Sopapillas
Ingredients
- 2 Cups flour
- 2 tsp Baking powder
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 2 TBLS Shortening
- 2/3 Cup Warm Water
- Oil or Shortening for frying
Instructions
- Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a large bowl.
- Using a pastry cutter, cut shortening into the flour until it resembles course meal.
- Gradually ad in the warm water.
- Mix until dough forms.
- Use your hands to kneed the dough for 1 minute.
- Cover and set aside for about 45 minutes.
- Separate dough into 2 pieces.
- Roll out on a lightly floured surface until about 1/8 in thick.
- Cut into 3-4 inch squares.
- Make sure they have flour on them before you place in the oil.
- Fry in hot oil until golden brown.
- If the oil is hot enough, they should puff up with in a few seconds.
- Place on a paper towel covered plae
- Toss in Cinnamon sugar.
- Serve with honey.
