Thick Soft Sugar Cookies

Ingredients

Cookies

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 5 1/2 cups flour

Buttercream Frosting

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4-1/3 cup milk
  • Food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a mixer, cream butter and sugar together.
  2. Add eggs and vanilla.
  3. Mix in sour cream.
  4. Combine salt, baking soda, and flour, then add to mixture.
  5. Roll dough on floured surface to approximately 1/4 to 1/3 inch thickness.
  6. Use spatula to transfer cookies to greased parchment-lined baking sheets.
  7. Bake at 375°F for 7-8 minutes. Cookies will appear underdone.
  8. Wait 5 minutes, then transfer to cooling rack.
  9. Once cooled, frost with buttercream.
  10. For frosting: cream butter, beat in sugar and vanilla until crumbly, gradually add milk to desired consistency, add food coloring as desired.
